CNN —Dubai International Airport, one of the world’s busiest aviation hubs, remained in disarray Thursday after unprecedented heavy rain led to airliners having to negotiate flooded runways. Delays and cancelations caused by the flooding have led to ongoing congestion at Dubai International Airport. The tarmac of Dubai International Airport was left submerged. Some residents were seen rowing canoes outside their homes, and one viral video on social media showed residents wake boarding on a flooded street in a residential area. Amr Alfiky/ReutersOther videos from social media showed water rushing through a major shopping mall and inundating the ground floor of homes.

Tata Group currently owns a 51% stake in Vistara, and the remaining 49% is owned by Singapore Airlines. India's Vistara airline has cut flights following cancelations and delays all week as pilots have been on a strike of sorts over salary revisions. Tata Group, which owns a 51% stake in Vistara — the remaining 49% is owned by Singapore Airlines — announced its merger with Air India. Pilots used to "get the same amount of money" whether they flew for 10 or 70 hours earlier — even though the minimum was 70 — he said. The new structure will cut the salary from about $7,400 (for 70 hours but not always enforced) to $5,200 for a strict 40 hours, he said.

CNN —Mexico’s most dangerous active volcano spewed ash and smoke on Tuesday, with photos showing massive columns of gray emissions – large enough to ground nearby flights. The Popocatépetl volcano sits in central Mexico between the states of Morelos, Puebla and the State of Mexico. Ash fall was reported in Mexico City and its surrounding region, about 45 miles (72 kilometers) southeast of the volcano, according to the National Civil Protection Coordination. Then last May, it spewed enough ash that the Mexico City airport canceled hundreds of flights. Authorities in several states suspended in-person classes and warned residents to prepare for evacuation – though volcanic activity eventually slowed.

In early February, I went on a two-week trip to Europe, on a mission to travel to six countries — including four of them by train. Here are three major mistakes I made along the way, and what you can do to avoid them. While some train rides — like the one from Venice to Rome on the Italian train company Trenitalia — were empty, others were packed. Many European train routes have multiple stops, and passengers simply get on and off the train. At boarding, hundreds of passengers scrambled for a seat, while I struggled to hoist my massive bag up the train.

CNN —In April 2023, George Fox was gearing up for the adventure of a lifetime: a three-year cruise taking him around the world. The high hopes and eventual failure of the Life at Sea cruise reads a bit like a Greek tragedy. When Miray objected, he resigned, along with much of his team, and told passengers the cruise was off. When the cruise was canceled in November, Bayramoğlu told passengers that only 111 cabins were booked. On October 24, Miray’s PR spokesperson told CNN that the departure date had been moved to November 30.

BERLIN (AP) — Heavy snowfalls and freezing rain across Germany Wednesday led to the cancellation of hundreds of flights and trains, crashes on icy roads, and school closures. At Frankfurt airport, Germany's biggest, more than 500 flights were canceled, while in Munich over 250 arrivals and departures were canceled. In western Germany, Saarbruecken airport closed for the day, as Duesseldorf and Cologne/Bonn airports were also affected by delays and cancelations. The freezing rain across western and southern Germany also led to countless crashes on icy roads in the early morning hours of Wednesday. As a precaution, many schools and kindergartens in the country closed for the day, and some companies offered their employees the option of working from home.

The Israel-Hamas war is affecting travel across the Middle East and beyond. Canceling plans a continent awayYet, the war's effect on travelers extends far beyond the Middle East, according to a survey from Morning Consult. Respondents said these plans included visits to the Middle East (12%) and North Africa (7%), as well as Western Europe (14%), according to the survey. Cancelations were high for domestic trips because most Americans travel within the 50 states, thus "there are simply more trips on the table to disrupt," the report stated. Some 52% of respondents with knowledge of the war said they viewed traveling to the Middle East as "very unsafe," compared to 29% of those who had not heard about it.

Of the $4 billion writedown, $2.8 billion was connected to the Ocean Wind 1 project, Orsted said. The Ocean Wind 1 project would have been New Jersey's first offshore wind farm and would have generated enough electricity to power half a million homes, according to a website about the project. It was going to include 98 turbines located 15 miles off the coast of southern New Jersey. The similarly sized Ocean Wind 2 project was also going to be located off the southern New Jersey shore and was due to start in 2028, according to a website about the project.

That's odd, she thought, then toggled over to Facebook to search for clues about the issue on a group for MGM Resorts International loyalty members. There, she learned that the largest casino owner in Las Vegas had fallen victim to a cybersecurity breach. The situation entered its sixth day on Friday, with booking capabilities still down and MGM Resorts offering penalty-free room cancelations through Sept. 17. The security attacks that triggered an FBI probe shatter a public perception that casino security requires an “Oceans 11”-level effort to defeat it. It's true, Kim said, that casino giants like MGM Resorts and Caesars are protected by sophisticated — and expensive — security operations.

Commercial-free Disney+ will cost $13.99 per month, a 27% increase, beginning Oct. 12. Disney is increasing the price of Hulu without ads to $17.99 per month, a 20% price hike. When Disney Chief Executive Officer Bob Iger launched Disney+ in 2019, he deliberately set the niche family offering at a low price of $6.99 per month — nearly half the price of Netflix. Iger acknowledged he was surprised the price increase led to minimal cancelations of the service. About 40% of new Disney+ subscribers have signed up for the ad tier, he said.

Photographer: Ben Nelms/Bloomberg via Getty ImagesThe supply chain is in turmoil again with International Longshore & Warehouse Union West Coast Canada members walking off the job after a key union caucus voted down a tentative deal that had temporarily ended the West Coast ports strike last week. Rob Ashton, president of the ILWU Canada, said in a statement that it did not believe the recommendations had the ability to protect union jobs. His group estimated that the first strike would cause an average 6-8 weeks of supply chain disruption before conditions would return to normal. The National Association of Chemical Distributors told CNBC some chemical companies are expected supply chain congestion until October as a result of the strike. Critical chemicals that go into food, cleaning, water purification, and personal care, among many others, flow through the West Coast ports of Canada and down to the United States.

In June, Wall Street Journal Reporter Dawn Gilbertson used the Colorado-based carrier's new flight subscription, which markets unlimited travel to anywhere in Frontier's network. United Airlines is hiring over 7,000 aircraft maintenance technicians amid a looming mechanic shortage. Aviation analyst Jonas Murby told Insider companies could address the issue with pay raises and automation. United Airlines is taking a proactive approach to the looming aircraft mechanic shortage. The lack of mechanics is expected to have effects similar to the pilot shortage, which has caused thousands of flight cancelations and forced airlines like American and United to ground regional aircraft. "I recently spoke with aircraft maintenance company Gameco in Guangzhou and they said they automated the entire paint stripping line just because of the mechanic shortage," he told Insider.
